Transportation Changes for 2016-17

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to inform you of transportation changes for the 2016-17 school year. Due to new district bell schedules, a few changes will be implemented on elementary and secondary campuses. Elementary and secondary students will no longer ride together on the same bus. Each campus will now have their own set of buses that transport those students registered to ride to school and home.

Elementary students will be picked up by 6:45 a.m. and will be dropped off on their campuses by 7:15 a.m. Secondary students will then be picked up starting at 7:20 a.m. and will be dropped off on their campuses by 8:00 a.m. When school is dismissed, elementary students will be transported home beginning at 3:20 p.m. Secondary students will board the bus after school is dismissed, and will be transported home beginning at 4:05 p.m. Morning and afternoon routes are estimated to take no longer than 45 minutes.

The neighborhood bus stops and one-mile walk boundaries set for each campus will remain the same as the previous year. Bus numbers will change, as we will be using fewer buses to transport students under this two-tier system. You may call the LCISD Transportation Office to obtain your child’s new bus number once you have registered your child for transportation (see instructions below).

Students not registered with the transportation department will no longer be able to ride buses to and from school. Campus administrators will no longer be signing notes allowing friends to ride home on the bus with another student.

Parents must call and make arrangements with the LCISD Transportation Office for specific situations involving child custody agreements, in which students may be registered to ride multiple buses to travel to different households.

To register your child to ride the bus for the 2016-17 school year, you will need to indicate that your child will need transportation by checking the “bus” option on the online student verification form on Skyward. For more information concerning the new guidelines for bus transportation, please contact the LCISD Transportation Department at (806) 863-7172.

Parents must make alternate transportation arrangements for students who will not be able to ride buses under the new guidelines.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these changes! Our goal is to provide a more efficient bus route for all students while decreasing the amount of traffic congestion on campuses.
