Lubbock-Cooper ISD has experienced incredible growth in recent years which can be attributed in large part to the supportive community culture our parents help create! It is the priority of the district to continue to provide students with the highest quality education in the best possible learning environment. To accommodate growth while maintaining an environment of safety, comfort, and innovation for all students, the district is in the midst of numerous campus construction projects. These projects are changing the faces of our schools and, in some cases, the layout of our district. Below you will find campus construction updates and information regarding updated elementary attendance zones!
CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:
South Elementary - Construction at South Elementary is on schedule for completion in December 2018. With the exception of the gymnasium and the current fifth grade wing, the entire campus is being rebuilt. The fifth grade wing will be transformed this summer into a pre-kindergarten and kindergarten wing to be completed before the start of the 2018-19 school year. The new building will have learning neighborhoods with collaborative areas that are built for maximum flexibility for students. Additionally, there will no longer be any portable classrooms at this campus.
North Elementary - The only construction taking place on the North Elementary campus this year has been the replacement of the entire roof of the older portions of the building. The new fourth and fifth grade wing and Activity Center are serving our students well, and we look forward to having a year with no construction activity.
West Elementary - We are in the middle of the addition of a fourth and fifth grade wing with flexible learning spaces that is a replica of what was recently added at both North and Central Elementary campuses. An additional gymnasium is being added on the south end of the project, and a parent drop-off and pick-up lane is being added on the east side of the property. This entire project will be completed by August 2018 and we look forward to occupying the building at the start of the 2018-19 school year. Additionally, there will no longer be any portable classrooms at this campus.
Central Elementary - No construction is taking place on the Central Elementary campus this year, but we remain very pleased with the fourth and fifth grade wing added two years ago.
East Elementary - East Elementary will be completed in the summer of 2018. The school is being built for a capacity of 800 students, and each grade level consists of a learning neighborhood with collaborative areas. The neighborhoods are being constructed to provide maximum flexibility for students and teachers.
ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE ZONE UPDATE:
Please click here to view an updated Lubbock-Cooper ISD Elementary Attendance Zone Map, effective beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The updates reflect necessary zone changes for the incorporation of Lubbock-Cooper East Elementary. Updated attendance zones will affect many elementary students and families throughout the district. Please review the bulleted points below for important attendance zone details:
- The Lubbock-Cooper ISD transfer policy is still in effect. LCISD does not accept out-of-district transfers at this time. LCISD does not permit intradistrict or “zone” transfers (elementary students who live in one LCISD campus zone and wish to attend a different LCISD campus zone) at this time.
- In order to ease the attendance zone transition, an elementary student entering fourth or fifth grade in the 2018-19 school year who lives in an area affected by zone changes will be given the option to remain at their previous campus to complete their elementary school career. By no means is this a requirement; students who wish to attend the school for which they are now zoned are welcomed and encouraged to do so. Transportation will be provided only for students attending the campus they are zoned for. (Fourth and fifth grade students remaining at the 2017-18 campus for which they are no longer zoned will not be able to ride the bus to and from school.)
- Elementary students entering kindergarten-third grade in the 2018-19 school year must attend the school for which they are now zoned. Younger siblings of fourth and fifth grade students will not be grandfathered in to remain at a campus for which they are no longer zoned.
- Elementary "flex zones" (overlapping attendance zones which offered a choice of two or more campuses to residents) have been removed. Residents of the district who previously lived in an elementary "flex zone" are now assigned a single campus.
