Lubbock Area United Way's annual United We Read day is set for October 26! This special event sends volunteers to every second-grade classroom in Lubbock County, where visitors read a book to students, lead a craft, and distribute take-home books to students. Approximately 3,500 second-graders hear the same book at the same time all over Lubbock County, reminding us of the importance of literacy to student success!
United We Read is not possible without volunteers to read to classrooms, lead crafts, and more! We would love for you, your friends, your co-workers, and others who support Lubbock-Cooper education to volunteer in our elementary schools that morning! For more information and to sign up, click the link below! (Remember to specify a Lubbock-Cooper school on the volunteer form!)

Don't forget to stop by any Taco Villa location from 5-8 pm TONIGHT (Friday, September 1) and mention LUBBOCK-COOPER, and 15% of the sale will be donated to LCISD! Taco Villa will DOUBLE the amount raised by the district with the most money donated between LCISD and FISD! It's a win-win!

Every year, Superintendent Bryant gives the Pulling for Kids Award to one LCISD employee who devotes their time, energy, resources, and heart into serving our students. On a few (very rare) occasions, the award has been presented to someone who is not employed by the district, but who works tirelessly for our community, betters our district, and, most importantly, supports and advocates for our kids.
Tonight, the Pulling for Kids Award was presented to Aaron Baxter. The decision to honor Aaron at the dedication of the new addition to LCHS was no coincidence - there was no more fitting setting for this presentation than a building decorated with so many of his eye-catching photographs of Pirates.
Aaron hasn’t always been in the Lubbock-Cooper community, but you'd never know that from visiting with him. He began attending district events when his wife, Nicole, was hired as the LBMS band director in 2014. When she moved to the High School, Aaron became a regular at Friday night football games, photographing the Pirate Pride Band.
It isn't just his talent and loyal fan status that stand out, but his passion for showcasing as many students as possible through his photography. It is important to him that the students he mentors, the students he cheers for, and the students he notices (even when others may not) see their incredible successes and are proud of their own hard work. And, even more inspiringly, it is incredibly important to Aaron that the families of these students have access to the memories and victories he captures on film, regardless of their financial state. Not only does he offer his images to all at no cost, but it is the district's experience that he will not accept payment for his work - even when it is used to decorate the halls of a freshly renovated high school campus.
His favorite thing about this district is its community - a sentiment just about all of us share. What makes this community the unique, supportive, welcoming place it is are individuals just like Aaron - people who take pride in the accomplishments of our students and staff, who want to help and provide for others, and who value the relationships we all form with one another as members of the LCP family.
Congratulations Aaron, and thank you for your commitment to Lubbock-Cooper and the LCP Family!

We gathered with several HUNDRED of our closest friends this evening to celebrate the dedication of the newly-renovated Lubbock-Cooper High School!
Opened in 1990, the campus has been home to thousands of Pirate students and staff, and has served as not only a reminder of where we’ve been, but a launchpad to where we’re going. For longtime LCP family members, LCHS is a visual representation of our extraordinary growth, and a tangible symbol of a community that never fails to support the needs of students. The renovation celebrated tonight will serve the LCP family for decades to come, and though it’s been significantly updated, the face of Lubbock-Cooper High School will remain the familiar source of pride it has always been.
Thanks to the Pirate Pride Band, Pirate Football, Lady Pirate Volleyball, Cheer, Pom, Pete the Pirate, LCISD Food Services, Local Legends Print Factory, and the many students, parents, employees, and friends of the district who made tonight’s event so special.
Praise to you, dear Cooper High School,
Grandest in the land.
Praise to you, our alma mater,
May you always stand.
Though the years may pass between us,
And the scenes may change,
Still, to us, dear Cooper High School,
You’ll remain the same.
May our praises, ever louder,
Ring against the sky.
For we’ll not forget to love you
DEAR OLD COOPER HIGH!
