Congratulations to LBMS Pilot Rylan Gregory, Co-Pilot Bradley Graham, and flight crew Sophia Esqueda, Cole Riggins, Sarah Ballew, and Paxton Shorten! They took home second place at the Drone Air Battles v3 HyperSpace meet at Frenship HS on Saturday, December 9! Thanks to the Lubbock Cooper Education Foundation and H-E-B for sponsoring drones and drone obstacles for LBMS students this year and for years to come!

At the December meeting of the LCISD Board of Trustees, LBMS teacher Elizabeth (Libby) Vineyard was recognized with the LCISD Gold Award, sponsored by Grand Canyon University. Issued once per semester, the Gold Award honors district employees who embody our district values of innovation, excellence, and family. A Gold Award recipient may hold any role throughout the district, but they all have one quality in common - they are working to further our vision of building the future, one student at a time! Mrs. Vineyard received several Gold Award nominations, including the excerpts below: "Miss Vineyard has become my daughter's favorite teacher. Miss Vineyard will help her after school with subjects she is struggling with. She has gone so far out of her way for my daughter...She has been a blessing to my daughter." "Miss Vineyard has a patience and understanding and positive energy that massively helps her students....I believe Elizabeth Vineyard is a prime example of what a teacher should be." "We are new to Lubbock-Cooper schools. Mrs. Vineyard has worked hard to help [our son] grow. I think the part that stands out though - she wrote a short note this week to encourage him about how hard he's worked in her class. That meant a lot to him (and us)." Mrs. Vineyard is "good as gold," and we are so proud she's part of the #LCPfamily!

TRANSPORTATION UPDATE: Due to deteriorating road conditions, LCISD buses will run on pavement and caliche roads only for the remainder of the week (Thursday, December 14 and Friday, December 15). Students who live on dirt roads will need alternate transportation to/from school.

LCMS NJHS members organized a Giving Tree and were able to donate over 112 pairs of socks to Communities in Schools just in time for the distribution of the organization's annual Christmas boxes! Way to go, Pirates! #LCPfamily #giveback

The funeral for Lubbock Firefighter Matt Dawson is scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, December 4. He will be laid to rest at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park (just north of Lubbock-Cooper High School) following the funeral service. A very high number of service attendees is anticipated, in addition to several large emergency operations vehicles. The funeral procession into the cemetery will likely fall during or near dismissal time for Lubbock-Cooper High School, and TxDOT plans to temporarily block off the north portion of Loop 493 to allow the lengthy procession to safely and efficiently enter the cemetery. For the safety of LCHS students and service attendees, and to assist in easing traffic along Loop 493 before and during the graveside service, Lubbock-Cooper High School will dismiss at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4. The bell schedule will be adjusted to accommodate this early release. Lunch will still be served for LCHS students, and LCHS bus routes will run on this early release schedule (approximately two hours ahead of usual route times). The north portion of Loop 493 (from the Woodrow Volunteer Fire Department north) will be closed once Lubbock-Cooper High School has emptied; at approximately 2:30 p.m. This will affect parents traveling south on Highway 87 to pick up students from South Elementary and Lubbock-Cooper Middle School (both campuses will dismiss at their regular time). If you normally travel to the South Elementary or LCMS campuses via Highway 87 and the Loop 493 exit, please use the WOODROW ROAD exit on Monday. The thoughts and prayers of the entire LCP family are with the Dawsons and the Lubbock Fire Department.

Mr. Parrott's LBMS Principles of Agriculture students toured the Lubbock Cotton Growers Co-Op gin, where they learned the process of cotton production from field to fiber in the cotton capital of the U.S.!

The east drive leading into the Lubbock-Cooper High School campus has been dismantled by TxDOT crews today as part of the expansion of Woodrow Road. This will impact today's afternoon pick-up and subsequent drop-offs and pick-ups. Please keep in mind that student drop-off and pick-up on the north (back) side of the LCHS building is still available, and may be the most efficient route for those impacted by drive shut-downs in the front of the building. Parents may prefer to park in the north parking lot and await student dismissal. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

The LCHS Chick-fil-A Leadership Team delivered books to first graders at East Elementary last week, while taking time to eat breakfast alongside the younger students and read to them! Each first-grade student received five books to take home! #LCPfamily
